Hopefully there will also be a few pages centred around my fathers experiences in the army during WWII including the period 1940 to 1945 when he was a POW in France, Germany and Poland (in particular Stalag VIIIB (Lamsdorf)).
Unfortunately my father passed away on 22nd January 2007, a few of his poems and later some of his drawings and paintings will be available here.
If you want to help, make a donation to the Alzheimers Society and ask for the money to go to research into Vascular Dementia.
Musical tastes vary, including mine. Current favourites are Bob Fox, Kate Rusby, Show of Hands and The Oysterband. A few links to gig lists and artistes web sites are included.
The backbone of my social life over the past 20+ years has been a love of hillwalking with the occasional rock scramble, mixed with a keen but unsophisticated enjoyment of taking photographs of nice (or downright scary at times) views. A few beers in the evening and a few bars of a half remembered song help a bit too.
A few links to friendly B&B's camp sites etc, and the notorious OUTAC web site are also included.
For those of you unfortunate to be interested in computers, although my main PC is running Windows 2000, I also
have SuSE Linux running on a couple of PCs.
I have been interested in computers since studying at Sunderland Polytechnic, where the highest technology was brand new 286/386 machines which we used to do 3D graphics...wow. Some useful links are included for the hardware and software I use.
There are also a few pages devoted to my work as a geotechnical engineer, including links to some useful addresses
for employment agencies, statutory bodies and useful contact names and addresses or references where appropriate.
I hope you enjoy your perusal of the web site.
Regards, Nick
